A little bit about us

Once only a North East delicacy our unique special blend of pease pudding is now being appreciated by customers all over the country

We have seen increasing levels of demand for our pease pudding during the past 18 months and are now supplying over 12,000 tubs each week to Aldi, which sells the product in 43 stores.

We also supply Asda, Morrisons Waitrose, the Co-op and Lidl and a number of independent retailers and have plans to increase the availability in other outlets across the whole UK in the coming months.

Established in 1978 by Alan Hamilton senior, we now produce a total of 22 tonnes of pease pudding every week, that's the equivalent of 40,000 small tubs.

Alan Hamilton Junior, whose daughter Ainsleigh also works at Durham Foods, said: “We’ve been supplying Aldi for about two and a half years and the sales have gone through the roof. They approached us and said we’d like you to supply our pease pudding.

"We originally started our relationship with Aldi supplying around 2,000 individual tubs a week; we’re now up to 12,000".

"We’re seeing more and more inquiries for our pease pudding from further afield so are hoping for this success to continue".

Durham Foods employs 18 staff, with half devoted to the art of pease pudding making. We also supply a delicious range of cooked meat from a separate factory unit next door.

When the company first started, pease pudding production was limited to domestic kitchens and small butchers, which is where we used to purchase it from. As it grew in popularity, Alan senior decided to make his own pease pudding recipe. He didn’t use bacon or ham stock and therefore made pease pudding suitable for vegetarians for the first time.”

Our comprehensive website is coming very soon, however If you would like more information on any of our products or would like to start stocking our products then please contact us on the number or email link below and one of our friendly staff will be back in touch with you the same day.

A renaissance in pease pudding appreciation

Even though pease pudding has been a staple food in many North East house holds for generations, there's currently a renaissance in pease pudding appreciation.

Its obviously as delicious as ever but the extremely low fat content and the fact that its gluten free has attracted an all new clientele for this extremely versatile food.

Our more adventurous customers and chefs alike never cease to amaze us in the ways they can use pease pudding.
